Free GST debit note maker
Billed too little, charged the wrong GST rate, or agreed an extra charge after the invoice? Do not edit the old invoice: issue a debit note for the difference, with the GST worked out and the original invoice quoted. No login, nothing sent to anyone.
How to make a debit note here
- Type your business details once. Name, address, state and GSTIN. Saved businesses appear as you type.
- Choose Sale or Purchase. Under "This note is against": Sale for a debit note to your customer, who then owes you more. Purchase for a debit note to your supplier for goods you returned, a rate or tax they charged too high, or short supply: you then owe them less. Purchase notes have their own series, PDN/26-27/001.
- Fill in the customer and the original invoice. Under "Issued to" type the customer who got the invoice (saved customers come up as suggestions). Then type the original invoice number and date: both print on the note.
- Pick the reason. Price increased (rate difference), Tax charged short, or Other. It prints on the note.
- Add only the difference. Enter the items with the extra amount: the extra quantity, or the difference in rate, with HSN and GST rate. CGST + SGST or IGST is worked out like on an invoice.
- Check the number. Debit notes have their own series, DN/26-27/001, separate from invoices and credit notes, restarting every financial year.
- Save, then Print / PDF or Share. Print the Original for recipient and Duplicate for supplier copies, and send the PDF to the customer on the same day. When the customer pays, set the status to Amount received (or Adjusted in account).
What it does for you
- GST worked out for you: CGST + SGST, IGST or UTGST chosen from the two states, with a tax summary by HSN, just like the invoice.
- Its own number series, DN/… for debit notes, restarting every financial year, with a warning when a number is used twice.
- The original invoice is quoted: number, date and reason print at the top, as GST rules ask.
- Copies: Original for recipient and Duplicate for supplier.
- Track every note: every debit note you save is listed in "Saved debit notes", and the Nivesh Sahayak App adds it to what the customer owes.
- In your language: 24 languages on screen; the printed note stays in English. A4 or A5 paper.
Your data stays with you
Everything you type is kept in this browser on this device. There is no account and nothing is uploaded to us. Your businesses, customers, suppliers and items are shared with the other Nivesh Sahayak document tools through my.niveshsahayak.in, so details you saved while making an invoice or a quotation are already here as suggestions.

Questions people ask
Is this debit note maker free?
Yes. Making, saving, printing and sharing debit notes is free, with no login and no limit. A small line at the bottom of the page says where it was made.
Who issues a debit note under GST?
The supplier, the one who issued the original tax invoice, when the value or tax on it was too low. A buyer's "debit note" for returns is a commercial document, not a GST debit note.
What is the difference between a debit note and a credit note?
A debit note increases the amount and tax of an invoice (price or tax too low, extra goods or charges). A credit note reduces it (returns, price cut, short supply); make those on credit-note.niveshsahayak.in.
Is a supplementary invoice the same as a debit note?
For GST, yes. Section 34 says a debit note includes a supplementary invoice.
Is there a time limit to issue a debit note?
No last date is set for the supplier, but the tax is due with the return of the month in which the note is issued. The buyer must claim the input credit by 30 November after the financial year of the debit note (or the annual return date, if earlier).
Can I make a debit note for a purchase return?
Yes. Choose Purchase (Supplier) under "This note is against". The note goes to your supplier, lowers what you owe them in the Nivesh Sahayak App, takes returned goods out of stock and lowers your input tax credit in the GSTR-3B working. It is not part of your GSTR-1. A credit note you receive from a supplier is recorded the same way.
Do I need to quote the original invoice?
Yes. Type its number and date. They print at the top with the reason.
Should a debit note have its own number series?
Yes, separate from invoices and credit notes. This maker uses DN/26-27/001, restarting every financial year. You can change the series in My data, Settings.
How do I send it on WhatsApp?
Press Share. On a phone the share sheet opens with the PDF attached: pick WhatsApp and the chat. On a computer the PDF is downloaded so you can attach it.
